Abstract

Human beings, by nature, have evolved through stories. Stories throw several
possibilities to humankind to understand the universe better. Though storytelling involves less
of reality and more of fiction, it cannot be denied that mankind learns better through stories.
To understand philosophy, storyteller like Piscine Patel in the novel Life of Pi who is a
character himself and who is the creator of other characters in his story, exist in the real world
as well. The protagonist in the novel, through his philosophical storyline, teaches the essence
of all religions and the tool book for survival, which is faith in its modest form. Pi throws two
possible stories of different dimensions to the readers in which both rely on faith and not reason.
The crux of the novel is about the choice that the readers will mostly prefer to believe in inspite
of the compelling absence of evidence in both stories. The characters and the sequence of
events in the story take on a philosophical tone as they emerge to form a pattern amidst the
chaos. Storytellers have the ability to change our perspectives on life and the beyond.
