Abstract

his paper voices the extraordinary resilience showcased by the family of Walter Lee Younger in the way of materializing
their dreams. Lorraine Vivian Hansberry (1930-1965) the young, gifted, African-American woman playwright is a multifaceted artist with impeccable knowledge of her men and time. As an eminent playwright, she treats the following themes such as socialism, feminism, racism, slavery and gender issues along with the importance of family relationships with a touch of universality. Her play A Raisin in the Sun depicts an ambitious family's attempt to regroup themselves after a great struggle in overcoming the socio-political obstacles that cease the lives of the African Americans for many centuries.
